Step-by-Step Instructions for Crispy Homemade Onion Ring Chips
- Pour enough vegetable oil into a deep fryer or large pot to fully submerge the onion rings. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of paprika, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. Whisk together until smooth.
- Set up three dipping stations: one for the buttermilk, one for flour mixture, and another for panko breadcrumbs. Pour 1 cup of buttermilk into a shallow bowl.
- Dip an onion ring into the buttermilk, coat it with the flour mixture, return to buttermilk, then dredge in panko breadcrumbs. Repeat for all onion rings.
- Lower the coated onion rings into the preheated oil in batches. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the onion rings with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain. Serve immediately with dipping sauces.

Notes
For extra crunch, double-dip the onion rings in buttermilk before coating with panko. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
