For the Seasoning

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Optional; use fresh garlic for bolder taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder Optional; can be omitted.
For the Cheese
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese Melts beautifully.
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Can substitute with Pecorino Romano.
For the Garnish
  • Fresh parsley Optional; adds color and freshness.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In the baking dish, combine uncooked penne pasta, marinara sauce, and water or beef broth. Add frozen meatballs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well.
  3. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 35-40 minutes, checking for tenderness.
  4. Remove the foil and sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
  5. Return the uncovered dish to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until cheese is melted and golden.
  6. Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
