  • 300 g Glutinous Rice Soak for at least 8 hours
  • 50 g Lard (melted) Can substitute with vegetable oil
  • 15 g Cooking Oil (for frying)
For the Black Sesame Filling
  • 50 g Roasted Black Sesame Use roasted for optimum taste
  • 20 g White Sugar Adjust to sweetness preference

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Rinse glutinous rice under cold water until water runs clear, then soak in water for 8 to 12 hours. Drain well.
  2. Place soaked glutinous rice into a steamer lined with cheesecloth. Steam over boiling water for 30 to 40 minutes until tender.
  3. Combine roasted black sesame and sugar in a food processor. Pulse until finely ground, then add melted lard and mix until smooth.
  4. Once cooled, knead the steamed rice until smooth. Divide into small balls weighing 30-40g, keeping them covered.
  5. Flatten a portion of dough, fill with a teaspoon of sesame filling, fold, and seal tightly. Shape into discs.
  6. Heat oil in a skillet and fry the cakes in batches for 5 to 7 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve warm to enjoy as a comforting dessert or snack.
