Step-by-Step Instructions for Homemade Bread
  1. In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine 2 teaspoons of active yeast with 1 cup of warm water and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 tablespoons of oil to the bowl. Gradually mix in 3 cups of all-purpose flour, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-8 minutes until smooth and elastic. If using a mixer, knead on medium for 4-5 minutes.
  4. Place kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
