Ingredients

For the Bread
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Consider bread flour for extra chewiness.
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast Freshness is key to great results.
  • 1 cup warm water Keep it around 110°F for optimal leavening.
  • 1 tbsp sugar Can swap with honey or agave.
  • 1 tbsp kosher salt Avoid table salt to prevent overly salty taste.
  • 1/4 cup olive oil Extra virgin gives the best flavor profile.
For the Toppings
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced) Fresh garlic packs in more flavor.
  • 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese For a twist, try using asiago or pecorino.
  • fresh rosemary or thyme (optional) Any fresh herb can add a delightful twist.
  • flaky sea salt (optional) Sprinkle on top to enhance flavor.

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Pan
  • Oven

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water with 1 tablespoon of sugar. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast on top and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Once the yeast is foamy, stir in 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of kosher salt, and 1/4 cup of olive oil. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean towel and place in a warm area for 1 to 1½ hours until it has doubled in size.
  4. While your dough rises, mince 4 cloves of garlic and grate 3/4 cup of Parmesan cheese. Prepare fresh herbs if using.
  5. Generously grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with olive oil.
  6. Transfer the risen dough to the prepared baking pan. Stretch it to fit the contours of the pan and drizzle olive oil over the surface.
  7. Press deep dimples into the surface of the dough with your fingertips.
  8. Sprinkle the minced garlic and grated Parmesan evenly over the surface. Add fresh herbs and flaky sea salt if desired.
  9. Cover the pan with a towel and let the dough rise for another 20–30 minutes while preheating the oven to 425°F.
  10. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and edges are crisp.
  11. Let it cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then slice into squares and serve warm.
