Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water with 1 tablespoon of sugar. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast on top and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Once the yeast is foamy, stir in 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of kosher salt, and 1/4 cup of olive oil. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean towel and place in a warm area for 1 to 1½ hours until it has doubled in size.
- While your dough rises, mince 4 cloves of garlic and grate 3/4 cup of Parmesan cheese. Prepare fresh herbs if using.
- Generously grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with olive oil.
- Transfer the risen dough to the prepared baking pan. Stretch it to fit the contours of the pan and drizzle olive oil over the surface.
- Press deep dimples into the surface of the dough with your fingertips.
- Sprinkle the minced garlic and grated Parmesan evenly over the surface. Add fresh herbs and flaky sea salt if desired.
- Cover the pan with a towel and let the dough rise for another 20–30 minutes while preheating the oven to 425°F.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and edges are crisp.
- Let it cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then slice into squares and serve warm.

Notes
Check yeast freshness for best results. Allow enough time for rises and enjoy a sticky dough for a perfect focaccia.
