Step-by-Step Instructions for Soft Butter Cookies
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using a hand mixer until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg yolks one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and salt, then gradually add to the wet ingredients until crumbly.
  5. Mix in milk as needed until the dough reaches a stiff buttercream consistency.
  6. Transfer dough to a piping bag and pipe onto lined baking sheets in rosette shapes, spacing 2 inches apart.
  7. Chill the dough in the piping bag for 15-20 minutes if too soft to pipe.
  8. Bake for 13-15 minutes until edges are light golden brown and centers remain soft.
  9. Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
