  • wooden spoon
  • Loaf Pan
  • Oven

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water with a teaspoon of sugar. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast on top and let it sit undisturbed for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Stir in 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of olive oil if desired. Gradually add 3 cups of all-purpose flour, one cup at a time, mixing with a wooden spoon.
  3. Optionally knead the dough gently for 1-2 minutes. Place in the bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  5. Cover loosely and let it rise for another 30 minutes while preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Bake for 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  7. Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
