Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook for about 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove from skillet.
  2. In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil, diced onion, and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Stir in minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes, cooking for an additional 30 seconds.
  3. Add uncooked orzo to the skillet, stirring continuously for 1-2 minutes until slightly golden. Pour in chicken broth and bring to a gentle simmer.
  4. Cover the skillet and reduce heat to medium-low, cooking for about 8 minutes. Uncover, add broccoli and sausage back, stir well, and cover again for a few minutes.
  5. Uncover and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes until broccoli is tender-crisp. Stir in Parmesan cheese and lemon juice until the cheese melts. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Turn off the heat, garnish with parsley, and serve warm.

Mise en place ensures a smooth cooking process. Take your time browning the sausage for deeper flavors, and add broccoli towards the end to avoid overcooking.
